Boring Weekend Ahead? Join These Activities and Have Fun at Southwest Austin

Brodie Park CrossFitGot nothing to do this weekend? Head over to South Austin and take your pick from these exciting events that are guaranteed to help you pass the time enjoyably:

Bug Night Out (Oct.  7)- The Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center offers a one-night-only bug-sightseeing tour in the gardens on Friday. The center’s mercury light stations turn on to attract nighttime insects. Flashlights are recommended for the family-friendly event.

Boo at the Zoo (Oct. 7-8)- The zoo becomes illuminated and decorated for the Halloween occasion on Friday and Saturday. Attendees can wear a costume, bring a picnic to enjoy in the picnic grove, ride a haunted train, explore a haunted house and see zoo animals. Adult attendees wearing a costume may not wear a mask.

Sweat Out The Vote (Oct. 8)- Brodie Park CrossFit hosts the voter registration drive and a free community workout on Saturday. Attendees can arrive a few minutes early to sign in and get ready to Sweat Out The Vote! The gym features CrossFit and other programs Monday through Friday.

Sheng Zhen Gong Sunday Practice (Oct. 9)- This local class gives attendees the opportunity to practice the forms they have learned or are learning so that they can master them more quickly. Drop-ins are welcome, but all students must have studied at least one Sheng Zhen Gong form before attending this class.

NLand Surf Park opening (Oct. 7)- Austin’s first inland surf park opens this Friday. The water-themed park, located east of Austin-Bergstrom International Airport on a 160-acre lot at 4836 E. Hwy. 71, Austin, was created by surfer Doug Coors, descendant of brewing company founder Adolph Coors.
